MICHAEL STEWART has used his platform on the BBC to lavish praise on Celtic for the way they took apart Cluj on Thursday night and described their performance as ‘dominant’.
The bhoys went out with a point to prove after their Champions League exit at the hands of Dan Petrescu’s men in August and they didn’t miss the mark.
The team were up for it right from the off on a cold and wet October’s night in Glasgow. Sustained pressure from kick-off meant it looked like just a matter of time before Celtic made the breakthrough. Christoper Jullien had two chances in quick succession and he’ll be kicking himself he didn’t manage to find the net with one of them.
However, the deadlock would be broken shortly after when Callum McGregor played in an on-rushing Bolingoli who JUST caught the ball at the byline and swung in a perfectly weighted cross for Edouard to find the back of the net – sending Celtic fans into a chorus of ‘I wanna be Edouard’.
Celtic continued to turn the screw in the second half and looked like they would score more – they kept going and it would be Mohamed Elyounoussie who would make sure of all three points on the night when the winger capped off an excellent display by finding the back of the net.
Michael Stewart noted the stark difference between August and October when it comes to this Celtic team.
‘The standout thing I take from this win for Celtic was that their energy levels were through the roof.” Stewart told the BBC Website. “Such a dominant performance and they convincingly put Cluj to the sword. Seeing that you wonder how they lost to them the last time and it shows the improvement since August’
