DARRELL CURRIE has warned that the current shifting of power to the top five leagues in Europe will cause a monumental ripple effect around the rest of Europe.
The ‘elite’ leagues who already garner a lot of the Champions League spots are looking to tie up the competition for themselves in future – not allowing inferior leagues to compete with them on any serious level plausibly.
It’s a case of the rich wanting to get richer.
Plans put forward for a meeting in August claim an invitation-only style Champions League where the spots will go to the likes of the English league.
The popular BT presenter foresees a breakaway from leagues in Scotland, Belgium, Hollan etc. to counteract these plans.
If this ever happened domestic league football in Europe would change forever. Teams from leagues beyond the ‘top 5’ would have to break away and form a new competition. The rich would get richer. The Ajax story might never happen again. Football, bloody hell 🤦♂️👇 https://t.co/1tCjtSCLD2

Celtic and Ajax have been fighting on the Champions league front for some time now with Peter Lawwell and Edwin van der Sar leading the charge for the smaller nations looking to still gain entry into the competition.
Ajax got to the semi-final of this year’s competition BUT will have to qualify again to get to the group stage and Celtic who have won their league have to go through four rounds of qualifiers to make the competition.
Something has to give.
