Report: Neil Lennon’s First Clash With Board Over Player’s Future

NEIL LENNON is a man on a mission to get Celtic ready for their Champions League qualifiers which kick off in just over a month.

The Irishman has little time to make the changes he needs to the squad in order to give the club the best possible chance of qualification.

There’s still a few things up in the air for the new Celtic boss and one of them is the contract situation surrounding Mikael Lustig. As of now, Mikael is not a Celtic player and hasn’t signed a new deal with the club. Celtic had the option of extending Mikael’s current deal for one more season but chose not to so they could potentially renegotiate his terms.

However, as the days wear on, nobody knows if we’ve seen Mikael for the last time in a Celtic jersey. Many believe the defender would be a good backup to an incoming, younger right back but others think his time should come to an end.

According to Football Insider, Neil Lennon is now fighting the Swede’s corner for a new deal with the board who are said to be reluctant to hand the defender a new deal with the Irishman wanting to overrule their decision.

The report claims: “A Celtic source has told Football Insider that Lennon is eager to keep the long-serving right-back and hand him an extension to his current deal.”

Is Neil going to butt heads with Peter Lawwell already? It would be crazy to think, regardless of how the board feel, that they’d go against their manager’s wishes so early on.
