It might have been just tongue in cheek commentary from Sky Sports Ian Crocker today as Celtic lined up against Saint Johnstone, but there is a sinister side that won’t be lost on Celtic fans.
The commentator made the remark as the game kicked off but it wasn’t long into the game before Celtic had a penalty decision turned down. Oliver Burke was through on goal when a tackle came in from behind. (continues below…)
While the penalty wasn’t an absolute stonewall foul. Burke was through on goal and it looked like the defender made contact with the ball but came through the back of Burke at the same time. Are you allowed tackle from behind? It doesn’t help that the second-placed Glasgow team managed to get four “soft” penalties yesterday at Ibrox. Most Celtic fans joked that it wasn’t a penalty unless it was at Ibrox.
Celtic have left the field MacDairmuid Park at halftime the same way they did against Saints on Wednesday night, goalless. Rodgers will be hoping the second half will follow suit and some of his players can make the breakthrough and get on the scoresheet. God knows he can’t depend on match officials to officiate.
