Yang’s Move to Birmingham Collapses But Exit Still on the Cards

Hyunjun Yang’s proposed move from Celtic to Birmingham City has collapsed at the final hour.

The South Korean winger had travelled south to complete a £3million-plus permanent switch to the Championship club, but the deal has now fallen through. Talks broke down late in the process, and Yang will now return to Scotland and rejoin the Celtic squad.

The collapse could spark fresh interest from elsewhere, with Belgian Pro League side Gent understood to be closely monitoring the situation. Crucially, the Belgian transfer window remains open until September 8, giving Gent a potential edge should they choose to make a formal move.

Celtic had made Yang available for transfer after an inconsistent spell at the club, and Brendan Rodgers had been open to sanctioning his exit provided suitable replacements were lined up.

It remains to be seen whether Celtic will look to move the player on elsewhere before the Belgian window closes, but with time running out in most major markets, options could be limited unless Gent firm up their interest in the coming days.

For now, Yang remains a Celtic player, but his future looks far from certain.

He could be one to watch in the coming days, rather than the coming hours.
