Rodgers Issues Striker Alert Ahead of Champions League Deadline

Brendan Rodgers has made it clear Celtic must bring in another striker before the Champions League playoff squad deadline, admitting the club still need “to reinforce the top line” if they are to compete on all fronts this season.

Speaking after Sunday’s win, Rodgers struck a balance between praise for his current forwards and an urgent call for reinforcements. His comments put the spotlight firmly on Adam Idah, while also hinting that competition for places will be key to driving performances.

With Thursday’s UEFA registration deadline approaching, the clock is ticking for the Celtic board to secure the firepower Rodgers believes is essential. The Irishman underlined that while his squad is strong in defence and midfield, attacking depth remains a priority.

Rodgers also pointed to the role of competition in getting the best out of Idah, recalling how the striker thrived when pushing Kyogo Furuhashi for the starting spot.

He said: (TCW), “We need to reinforce the top line. I’m really pleased with where we are structurally, from our back line to midfield, with a squad that can cope domestically and in Europe.

“However, we need competition at the top end of the field.

“For Adam, he’s a big, honest boy. He was at his best when he was really challenging Kyogo for the position, and that’s something that is important for us to get.

“In the meantime, he’ll work hard and will always be that reference for us.”

Rodgers’ words will fuel speculation over who Celtic might target in the coming days, with supporters eager to see a proven finisher added to the squad.

Idah, who has shown flashes of quality since joining the club, is still regarded as a player with untapped potential. Rodgers’ praise, paired with a challenge to improve, suggests the striker remains central to Celtic’s plans, but won’t be left unchallenged.

The race to strengthen before Thursday’s Champions League playoff squad deadline will test the club’s ability to move quickly in the market, particularly with such high-stakes European fixtures looming.

For now, Rodgers is keeping faith with his squad, but his message is clear: Celtic’s ambitions this season hinge on securing another goal threat to lead the line.
