Celtic’s attacking options have taken another hit this year with Kyogo Furuhashi and Nicolas Kühn departing and Jota ruled out until 2026. The club now faces a pressing need to bolster the forward areas.

The Irishman has already spoken about the need for quality additions, but former Celt Charlie Mulgrew believes the situation demands urgent action.
Mulgrew, who knows what it takes to compete at the highest level for the club, says the loss of creativity is a real concern. Without the movement of Kyogo, the trickery of Kühn and the cutting edge of Jota, Celtic could struggle to break down stubborn defences.
Mulgrew identified the positions he feels Celtic must target in the remaining weeks of the window. He highlighted the importance of directness, invention and flexibility in attack, especially when facing teams that sit deep.
He said: (Go Radio Football Show), “Celtic now need to get some wingers in. I think they need two wingers and a striker — or at least two wingers to push Maeda inside. That would give them more creativity.
“When James Forrest comes on, he changes the game by being direct and driving across the pitch. He had a hand in the goal yesterday (sunday).
“They need creative players. They’ve been unlucky with the Jota injury, but they still need more in that final third to break down teams sitting in low blocks and denying space.”
Mulgrew’s point about moving Maeda into a central role could prove important. The Japanese attacker has shown his energy and pace out wide, but his direct runs and pressing could work even better through the middle if he gets the right service.

The ex-defender also stressed James Forrest’s ongoing importance to the team. While he may not start every week now, Forrest’s know-how and willingness to drive at defenders still make him a big asset, especially when Celtic are looking for a lift.
With European and domestic tests ahead, Rodgers cannot risk starting the season without enough players who can change games. Bringing in attackers who can unlock tight defences will be key to keeping Celtic on top at home and competitive abroad.
The next few weeks will show if the club can secure the signings Mulgrew says are needed. The support will want to see quick moves in the market to fill the obvious gaps before the real action begins.
