Celtic Told Two Attackers Needed After Goal Loss

Roger Hannah has picked up on Brendan Rodgers’ growing urgency over Celtic’s transfer plans. Rodgers has spoken several times about the attacking players who’ve left, pointing out the need for replacements.

Hannah says the message to the board is clear: Celtic need to bring in more attacking options before the window closes.

The journalist pointed out that Rodgers has gradually added more names to the list of departures, this time including Matt O’Riley alongside Kyogo and Nicolas Kühn. Each one took goals with them, and Rodgers clearly wants that firepower replaced before the season kicks off.

Hannah said Rodgers isn’t hiding what he wants. The Celtic board are being told that the goals lost this year must be made up. Kühn scored 17 last season, Kyogo bagged over 60 during his spell, and Jota, now unavailable for the first half of the season, was another key threat. Rodgers knows they need numbers and quality brought in.

Hannah kept it simple. Rodgers wants two new forwards, a striker and a winger, to add to what’s already there.

He doesn’t think current players like Yang, or Luis Palma can fill that gap. Rodgers wants stronger depth across the front line to cope with a long, demanding campaign.

He said: (Clyde 1 Superscoreboard), “In the last press conference, Brendan spoke about losing Nicolas Kühn. Then he spoke about losing Nicolas Kühn and Kyogo. And now he’s speaking about losing Nicolas Kühn, Kyogo, and Matt O’Riley.

“The message to the Celtic board is quite clear. Brendan Rodgers wants more attacking players. He’s lost Kühn — was it 17 goals last season? He’s lost Kyogo, an awful lot of goals, 66 or 68 for Celtic over the years. He’s lost Jota for the first half of the season, who also contributes with goals.

“I think it’s quite clear that the likes of Yang aren’t going to be the answer. Luis Palma has been shipped. Marco Tilio’s about to be shipped out again.

“I think Brendan Rodgers won’t be happy until he gets two more players to go up there — to go with Maeda — a centre-forward and another winger.”

Hannah makes it clear that Rodgers isn’t just after one new face, he’s asking for more. He wants new attacking players in a few positions, and he’s made sure the board and fans know the transfer window is still very much open.

Rodgers has said more than once that these signings need to come before the end of August. That puts the pressure on the recruitment team to deliver. Hannah points out that Rodgers knows late deals aren’t ideal, but he wants key players in before the big games start.

The key point in Hannah’s view is this: Rodgers is thinking long-term. With Europe and the cups ahead, the squad needs to be strong across the board. He’s focused on adding goals to make sure the team stays sharp through the season.

With just under six weeks left in the transfer window, Hannah says Rodgers is putting a clear deadline on the board. He wants his attack sorted out, and he’s warning that if the right players don’t come in, Celtic could be left short when it matters.
