Brendan Rodgers has hailed the return of Kieran Tierney to Celtic Park as a moment of real significance, both for the player and the club.

Tierney came off the bench to a standing ovation and made his mark almost immediately, bursting down the wing before delivering a pinpoint cross for Liam Scales to head home. It was a flash of the quality that made him a standout during his first spell in green and white.
Rodgers made a point of highlighting not just the impact Tierney had on the pitch, but what his return means for Celtic. The Irishman knows the 28-year-old could easily still be playing at the highest level in England, but chose to come back to the club he loves.
The assist, for Rodgers, was a perfect reminder of what Tierney brings, explosive pace, elite delivery, and an unshakable commitment to the Hoops. And while there’s more to come as he builds fitness, the Celtic boss sees his presence as a major lift heading into the new season.
He said: (Sky Sports), “I wanted him to get a specific welcome back, because I know just to get him back here at his age, where he could easily be playing at the top end of the Premier League, so to get a player of that level and that desire to play for Celtic was amazing for us.
“Then you see how he created the goal with that explosive speed and quality. For us, it is great to have him here and he is still finding his fitness, but it was a great moment for him.”
Rodgers’ comments show just how big a deal Tierney’s return is, not only for what he offers on the pitch, but for what he represents to the club and support. At a time when Celtic are looking to stay on top at home and push on in Europe, getting a player of his level back is a big move.

From what we saw today, that belief looks well placed. His assist had all the hallmarks of his game, sharp movement, quick feet, and a perfect delivery. It lifted the support and rounded off a solid team display.
With the new season fast approaching, all eyes will be on how Tierney settles back in. But going by Rodgers’ reaction, his return could make a big difference both on and off the pitch.
