Celtic have turned their attention to Napoli striker Giuseppe Ambrosino as they look to add fresh firepower to Brendan Rodgers’ squad.
The Hoops are understood to be working on a loan move with an option to buy, but they’re not alone in chasing the young Italian.
Ambrosino, who spent last season on loan at Frosinone, is also attracting strong interest from Serie A. Cremonese have already made a concrete move with a €3 million offer, while Cagliari are believed to be monitoring the situation and exploring a potential loan deal.
Despite limited senior experience, the 21-year-old is regarded as one of Napoli’s brighter young prospects, having impressed in Italy’s youth international setup.
With Ambrosino seen as a player who could grow into a key role under Rodgers. However, they may need to move quickly to fend off competition from Italy.
Cremonese sporting director Simone Giacchetta has now addressed the club’s ambitions in the transfer market, confirming their interest in Ambrosino during an interview.
He said: (Radio Marte), “Do we want to build a strong team to stay in Serie A? Yes, our goal is clear: we want to fight until the end for survival.
“Could Giuseppe Ambrosino be a good addition to our squad? We’re interested in many young players, and Ambrosino certainly deserves close attention. While he’s not yet a top goalscorer, he’s shown some interesting qualities.
“Have we already explored Napoli’s willingness to sell? In this transfer window, we talk to all the teams you think might have something useful.
“We’re a newly promoted team and we’re comparing ourselves with those who are bigger and better than us. Do we also like Alessio Zerbin, Walid Cheddira and Alessandro Zanoli?
“Napoli has a lot of players, and we have to cover different positions. We’ll be talking to various clubs, and Napoli has a lot of good players who, in my opinion, could be of interest to numerous teams.”
Brendan Rodgers is aiming to add quality to his frontline this summer, with Ambrosino among the targets being seriously considered.
Cremonese’s bid signals a serious intent from the Serie A newcomers, who are making early moves to strengthen ahead of their top-flight return. Their willingness to go in with a permanent offer puts pressure on Celtic to act.
The Hoops are also closing in on a deal for Japanese forward Shin Yamada and continue to track a number of attacking options across Europe, but Ambrosino’s name remains firmly on the radar.
With the window heating up and competition increasing, Celtic will need to decide quickly whether they can meet Napoli’s terms, or risk losing out to Italy’s top tier.
