Former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou reportedly held informal talks with Brentford about replacing Thomas Frank, according to The Athletic.

While the Premier League club did reach out to the former Tottenham manager, it’s understood that both parties mutually agreed not to proceed to a formal interview. The feeling was that a move wouldn’t be the right fit at this stage for either Postecoglou or Brentford.

Spurs brutally sacked the Aussie after he guided them to a Europa League, their first European trophy since 1984, and their first trophy in 17 years.

The league form was inconsistent, but many thought that win over Manchester United in Bilbao would do enough to secure his job.

Thomas Frank took over from Ange Postecoglou at Spurs.

Ultimately, Brentford opted to promote from within, naming assistant manager Keith Andrews as Frank’s successor.

Postecoglou’s stock does remains high in English football following his spell at Spurs, despite a mixed term.

The Aussie led Celtic to five trophies in two seasons before departing in 2023.

He’s still currently out of work, and he doesn’t seem like someone who will rush back into a job for the sake of it. There have been murmurings from Saudi Arabia, but nothing has come of those.
