Celtic could be set for another dip into the Japanese market as they reportedly weigh up a move for Kawasaki Frontale striker Shin Yamada.
The 25-year-old has caught the eye after a prolific 2024 campaign in the J.League, and Brendan Rodgers is understood to be assessing attacking options ahead of the new season.

According to a report by SunSport, the Hoops have been keeping a close eye on Yamada, who fired home 19 league goals last season and helped his side reach the final of the Asian Champions League. While his scoring form has cooled in 2025, netting just six goals in all competitions so far, he remains a player of interest for clubs across Europe.
Celtic are among those monitoring the situation closely, with reports suggesting a fee of around £1.5million could be enough to secure his signature.
Standing out as a strong forward, Yamada offers a different profile to Celtic’s current striking options. Though not particularly tall, he’s known for his strength in the air and ability to operate effectively inside the box. With just 18 months remaining on his current deal, this summer could be a key window for a move.
Celtic have enjoyed success in the Japanese market before. The signings of Kyogo, Reo Hatate, and Daizen Maeda under Ange Postecoglou brought immediate impact, and Rodgers may look to repeat that formula as he looks to add depth up front.

Yamada’s arrival would increase competition for places with Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah already in the squad and Johnny Kenny’s situation still to be resolved. It’s understood Celtic are keeping tabs on several targets, but the Japanese star’s name is firmly on the list.
Rodgers will be aiming to reshape his attack ahead of European qualifiers and a demanding domestic campaign. Whether Yamada becomes the latest import from the J.League remains to be seen, but interest in the Kawasaki Frontale striker is clearly building.
