“Heart-Warming” – Celtic Hero Joins Iconic Troon Taxi Day

Celtic FC Foundation has once again thrown its weight behind one of Glasgow’s most cherished annual events – the Troon Taxi Outing – with a donation of £7,000 to help give children with additional support needs a day to remember.

Hundreds of the city’s black cab drivers took part in the feel-good tradition on Wednesday, volunteering their time and vehicles to transport youngsters in a colourful convoy to the Ayrshire seaside town.

Celtic favourite Tosh McKinlay was on hand to present the cheque on behalf of the Foundation, which has supported the outing for more than 20 years, donating over £200,000 in that time.

The much-loved event sees dozens of taxis decked out in decorations and packed with excited passengers as they make the lively journey to Troon, where an afternoon of entertainment, games, and seaside treats awaits.

McKinlay, who joined the celebrations, said to the Celtic FC website, “The Troon Taxi Outing is one of the most heart-warming events you’ll experience. The joy on the kids’ faces and the generosity of the taxi drivers and volunteers make it truly special.

“It’s a real privilege for Celtic FC Foundation to play a part in something that brings so much happiness to so many. The Club has always stood for community, and this event is a perfect example of that in action.”

The Foundation’s Chief Executive, Tony Hamilton, also paid tribute to the drivers and organisers who make the day possible.

“We’re incredibly proud to once again play our part in supporting the annual trip to Troon. This special day continues to bring real joy and relief to children and families who truly deserve it.

“It’s a testament to the hard work, compassion and commitment of all those involved, from organisers to volunteers, and they all deserve enormous credit.

“In particular, the volunteer drivers, who so generously give their time and energy, are an inspiration. Their dedication is central to the success of this event.

“Our ongoing contribution is something we value deeply, and it’s heartening to know that it has helped so many over the years. Celtic was founded to serve those in need, and initiatives like this are a living reflection of that founding purpose. We hope this year’s trip is filled with laughter, fun and lasting memories for everyone involved.”

Since 1945, cabbies have taken part in the tradition and have decorated their taxis as they drive to the Ayrshire coast.

It’s one of the many reasons why we, the fans, love the club as much as we do, and it’s great to see us donating year after year.
