Report: Several Sides Join Race For Benjamin Nygren

Celtic have formally opened talks with FC Nordsjaelland over the potential signing of Swedish attacker Benjamin Nygren, but face stiff competition from several European clubs and Major League Soccer sides.

The 23-year-old attacker, who netted 16 goals and provided four assists last season, is entering the final six months of his contract with the Danish club.

Nordsjaelland are reportedly willing to sell for around £2 million to avoid losing him on a free transfer in January.

Brendan Rodgers has identified Nygren as a key target to bolster Celtic’s attacking options. The versatile forward, capable of playing on either wing, as a central striker, or in an attacking midfield role, would add depth and creativity to the squad.

His recent form has also seen him break into the Swedish national team, scoring twice in four appearances.

However, Celtic are reportedly not alone in their pursuit. Belgian side Anderlecht are reportedly keen on bringing Nygren back to Belgium, where he previously played for Genk.

Copenhagen are also interested, although reports suggest Nygren is looking to move outside Scandinavia. Additionally, MLS clubs, including San Diego, Nordsjaelland’s sister club, have shown interest in the player.

With the ability to negotiate freely with other clubs from July 1, Nygren’s future is set to be decided in the coming weeks. Celtic will hope that the lure of Champions League football and their track record of developing talent can sway the Swedish international to choose Glasgow as his next destination.
