Brendan Rodgers Snubs Jamie Vardy Reunion as Rangers Circle

Despite persistent rumours linking Jamie Vardy with a sensational move to Celtic, it now appears the Hoops have no intention of pursuing the veteran striker, with the Rangers reportedly showing interest instead. [SunSport]

The 38-year-old forward finished last season at Leicester City with nine goals and four assists in 35 league appearances, even as the Foxes were relegated. A move north of the border would reunite him with former boss Brendan Rodgers — but not in the green and white of Celtic, who’ve chosen not to revive that connection.

While Vardy’s name carries weight and experience, the idea of adding a striker fast approaching 40 was always likely to divide opinion. Celtic are understood to be prioritising a younger striker as they reshape their forward line this summer.

That decision will be welcomed by many in the support, especially with speculation continuing over Daizen Maeda’s future. The Japanese international remains a vital player in Rodgers’ frontline, and the club is hopeful he will commit to a new deal. Should Maeda depart, Celtic are expected to bring in two strikers before the window closes.

Among the targets attracting serious attention is Mathias Kvistgaarden. The Danish striker, just 23, is viewed as a forward with serious upside and potential resale value. He may not come cheap, but the expectation is that he would push the current team and grow into a long-term solution.

Whether he can maintain his scoring rate outside Denmark is a fair question — but there’s confidence he has the tools to adapt and contribute at Celtic Park.

As things stand, it’s clear Celtic are building for the future — not looking to the past.
