Report: Premier League Club Target Kyogo

Bournemouth are reportedly keeping a close eye on former Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi, who is likely to leave Rennes this summer.

Kyogo, now 30, was a fan favourite at Celtic after arriving in 2021 from Vissel Kobe. He scored over 80 goals for the Hoops, helping win the league title in his first season. He also scored twice in the 2021 League Cup final against Hibernian, which helped the Hoops get back on top.

Kyogo also played a key role in Celtic’s domestic treble the following year, as well as another double under Brendan Rodgers, before moving to Rennes in a £10 million deal in January.

Since joining the French side, Kyogo’s career has stalled. He has hardly played under new boss Habib Beye, who prefers younger players like Kader Meïté. Kyogo was signed by former manager Jorge Sampaoli and has not been part of Beye’s plans.

La Parisien report that Rennes need to reduce their large squad of 46 players before pre-season starts on June 28. Only 25 players, including three goalkeepers, will be involved. Kyogo is one of the players expected to be sold, even though he is under contract until 2027.

Bournemouth, who finished 9th in the Premier League, have reportedly asked about his situation. The club are set to make a sizeable fee from selling Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid and could now use some of that to bring in Kyogo.

A move to England could give Kyogo the fresh start he needs after a tough six months in France. However, whether Celtic would look to re-sign the 30-year-old remains to be seen, with the Hoops support divided on a potential return—especially given reports that he strongly pushed for an exit during his final six months in Glasgow.
