Former Celtic goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist played a huge part in the Serie A title race last night. The Swiss shot-stopper, now at Genoa, made a key save to stop Scott McTominay from scoring, helping his side earn a 2-2 draw away to Napoli.
The result means Napoli’s lead at the top has been cut to just one point, with Inter Milan right behind them and only two games left to play. McTominay had a good game for Napoli, setting up both of their goals.

But in the second half, with Napoli 2-1 ahead, his shot looked set to make it 3-1—until Siegrist stepped up. The former Celtic man made a top save to deny him, keeping Genoa in the game. That moment proved crucial, as Genoa went on to grab an equaliser.
Siegrist’s career has taken a few turns since he left Celtic in the summer. He joined Rapid Bucharest and quickly became their number one, keeping 15 clean sheets in just 13 league starts. But things changed when Neil Lennon was sacked in August. Siegrist lost his place and wasn’t happy under the new boss.
In January, he moved to Genoa on loan as part of a swap deal. Despite being excited for a fresh start, he didn’t play until last night’s game in Naples—his first Serie A appearance.

It turned out to be a massive moment, not just for him but for the whole league. His save might be remembered as one that helped decide the title.
And for McTominay and Billy Gilmour, both chasing glory with Napoli, it was a frustrating night—denied by a keeper who once sat on the bench at Celtic Park.
