Former Rangers striker Ally McCoist has had a season to watch from behind the couch as his former side struggled, while Celtic have already secured both the Premier Sports Cup and the Scottish Premiership. The Hoops are far and away the most successful team in Scotland—if they weren’t already—depending on where you stand.
This has angered a number of supporters across the city. However, McCoist had an interesting take on the Celtic supporters’ decision to sing the song and outsing the Ibrox crowd.
He said: (talkSport), “I think it’s brilliant, I think it’s hilarious.
“I don’t have a problem with it at all, I thought it was an absolutely brilliant wind-up.”
It’s good to hear McCoist is taking the noise well. Celtic are now far and away the best in Scotland—if you didn’t already think so after 2012 —especially after their domestic dominance over the last decade.
55 is now a number to remind Rangers supporters that Celtic have won 55 league titles fairly and squarely—without any need for liquidation, restarts, or asterisks.
The Hoops support know how hard the club have worked over the last 25 years to get to this point, and that makes it all the more satisfying to see and hear the Celtic support on Sunday singing ‘Simply the Best’—something Celtic have worked so hard to truly earn.
McCoist himself knows the song holds no real meaning to Rangers and instead will be used as a stick to beat them with by rival fans—and it’s good to hear that he has accepted it in good humour.
