Kasper Schmeichel has paid tribute to James Forrest, describing the winger as a “living legend” after Celtic’s most decorated player was honoured at the club’s annual Player of the Year awards in Glasgow.
Forrest was presented with a Special Recognition Award in celebration of his incredible haul of 26 major honours in a Celtic career that now spans over a decade and a half. The accolade was announced during Sunday night’s ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central, hosted by Shebahn Aherne and Des Clarke.
The 33-year-old, who made his debut in 2010, overtook Lisbon Lion Bobby Lennox this season to become the most decorated player in the club’s history—fitting recognition for one of Celtic’s most loyal and consistent servants.
Among those to congratulate him publicly was veteran goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who has shared a dressing room with Forrest this season and was quick to highlight the scale of the achievement.
Taking to Instagram the day after the awards, Schmeichel wrote: “Most decorated player in Celtic history. Living legend. 26 trophies. There’s only one James Forrest.”

Though not a regular starter this season, Forrest continues to play a valued role in Brendan Rodgers’ squad, contributing leadership and experience as Celtic chase yet another Treble.
With a Scottish Cup Final on the horizon and Forrest still looking for his first goal of the season, few would bet against him popping up with a vital moment to add yet another line to a career already dripping in silverware and significance.
