Celtic loanee Gustaf Lagerbielke has given the most telling hint yet that he may join FC Twente permanently in the summer, with the Swede unlikely to be given a second chance at the Hoops next season.
Lagerbielke doesn’t have an option to buy, meaning the ball is in Celtic’s court with how they deal with his future — but the centre-back believes if Twente finish in a European qualification spot in the Eredivisie, that will make a permanent move more appealing for all parties involved.

Having joined Celtic in 2023 from Elfsborg for around £3 million, the Hoops will be eager to recoup that fee — and could even turn a profit if a bidding war breaks out for Lagerbielke following his spell at Twente.
He said: (RecordSport), “If we go to Europe, Twente will have more money. The same goes if we sell any players.
“That will be up to the sports directors at the clubs.
“I want to play and I feel very comfortable in Holland. I can definitely imagine a future there.”

Lagerbielke appears resigned to the fact he won’t be at Celtic next season and has enjoyed life in the Netherlands, after a stop-start spell in Glasgow where it became clear after a few months that Brendan Rodgers didn’t see him as a regular starter.
The Swedish defender has been desperate to rebuild his career in the Eredivisie and hasn’t let his time at Celtic get him down, enjoying a respectable campaign — with the final goal being to help Twente qualify for Europe next season, potentially sealing a permanent move in the summer.
