Celtic captain Callum McGregor was absent from Friday’s training session, sparking concerns over his availability for Sunday’s Glasgow Derby against Rangers.

Images from SNS Group show no sign of McGregor in training, while SunSport has reported that he was not involved. The Hoops skipper has been withdrawn early in recent games against St Mirren and Hibs, managing what was described as a “minor calf problem” following his substitution in Paisley.
McGregor has been a key figure in these fixtures, scoring in the first derby of the season at Celtic Park. If he is unavailable, it would leave Celtic’s midfield significantly weakened, with Paulo Bernardo already sidelined.
It could see Luke McCowan handed a start in the Glasgow Derby.
However, Brendan Rodgers has yet to confirm his absence, and he has previously given players time off training to manage knocks.
The manager is set to face the media in the coming hours, and will no doubt provide the latest in regards to his squad.
Given McGregor’s importance, fans will be hoping this is simply precautionary rather than a serious concern ahead of a huge match.
In better news, James Forrest returned to training on Friday, after spending a few months on the sidelines.
