The Beginning of McCowan’s Journey

White recalled the early days when Ayr United scouted McCowan, a process that saw him break through the youth ranks at Somerset Park before his eventual move to Celtic. “I can remember it clearly – I have actually got on record the email we sent to East End, requesting that we sign Luke,” White said: (The Herald).

He added that he was part of the team that recruited McCowan to Ayr, noting that even at an early stage, the midfielder’s qualities were obvious. “The first impression I got of the player was his drive, and he has never lost that,” White explained, praising McCowan’s commitment from the outset.

Early Impressions and Rapid Development

McCowan’s technical ability was clear to see from his first trial match, where he played as a left-back for Ayr United in a game against Queen’s Park. White, however, saw McCowan’s potential as a midfielder due to his attacking instincts and vision. “I thought that even early on, his technical ability was excellent, but it was his drive and enthusiasm that really caught our eye from the get-go,” White commented.

As McCowan settled into regular training, his progress accelerated at an astonishing rate. “Once he settled in and got regular training sessions, his progress was frightening. He was outstanding,” White recalled.

For Celtic fans, McCowan’s journey is a testament to the Hoops’ strong scouting, with the midfielder proving that hard work, drive, and talent can lead to great success. His story also serves as an example of how players from smaller clubs can make a significant impact at the top level, especially when given the right opportunities.
