Addressing Jamie Vardy to Celtic Rumours

As the transfer window enters its final week, the rumour mill is in overdrive. Celtic fans are understandably on edge as Kyogo Furuhashi’s anticipated move to Rennes continues to drag on without official confirmation. However, amidst all the genuine uncertainty, one of the more bizarre stories to surface involves a supposed move for Jamie Vardy – a rumour that’s as flimsy as it sounds.

RecordSport has ran with the story and have been irresponsible with their headline; they have even posted the story multiple times, clearly getting joy from it.

Where did this come from? Not from anyone at Celtic Park, not from the player’s camp, and not even from a credible source. The entire rumour was sparked by former Rangers defender Craig Moore, who casually mentioned on The Go Radio Football Show that Vardy, now 38, might be an option for Celtic as a short-term replacement for Kyogo. Moore, who played under Brendan Rodgers at Leicester, speculated, “I haven’t watched every game, but is Vardy playing every single week down the road? He has seven goals and is 38. Brendan has worked with him.”

That’s it. A throwaway comment during a phone-in has snowballed into erroneous headlines and articles with no substance. Despite the fact that Brendan Rodgers knows Vardy from their Leicester days and enjoyed success together, there’s absolutely no evidence – no quotes, no whispers, no hearsay – that Celtic are even remotely considering this move.

Celtic are known to move quickly and decisively in the market, and this simply doesn’t fit their recruitment profile. While Vardy had a storied career, helping Rodgers win the FA Cup and Community Shield, he’s far from a realistic target for the Scottish champions. Never say never in football, and by some divine intervention, if Vardy were to come through the door, it wouldn’t lend any credence to the current crop of articles doing the rounds.

For now, the focus remains on resolving Kyogo’s future and ensuring Celtic finish the window on a strong note.
