Former midfielder Scott Allan has pinpointed the significant difference Nicolas Kuhn makes to Celtic’s attacking play compared to Hyunjun Yang.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene, Allan delved into the German winger’s ability to elevate the Hoops’ creativity and fluidity when he is on the pitch.
The former Celtic midfielder contrasted Kuhn’s approach to that of Yang, noting that the former brings a dynamism and confidence that is currently missing from the South Korean’s game.
He said: “I think when you compare Kuhn to Yang, Kuhn is obviously a left-footer playing on the right. I don’t think Yang goes out there and demands the ball or gives his teammate an angle.
“For me, Kuhn would give his teammate an option, and he’d have Kyogo to play with in the inside of the park and have other players looking to dovetail.
“This is the biggest telling point, it goes to Kuhn and Ralston is sprinting, Kuhn then comes inside the park and there’s options but Ralston was higher and it gives Celtic far more creative options.”
The German winger’s ability to cut inside from the right and link up with teammates like Kyogo and overlapping full-backs adds layers to Celtic’s attack. His tendency to attract defenders while maintaining control of the ball allows the Hoops to play with more width and unpredictability.
By contrast, Yang has struggled to consistently impact games. While the South Korean works hard off the ball, his decision-making and final product have come under scrutiny, particularly during recent starts.
Kuhn’s recent absence from the starting XI has coincided with moments where Celtic’s attack has lacked its usual sharpness. However, his goal against Motherwell as a substitute further underscored his value to Brendan Rodgers’ side. With a packed festive schedule and key fixtures on the horizon, including a derby clash with Rangers, Kühn’s creativity could prove crucial.
