Irish striker Johnny Kenny appears set to step up to Celtic’s first team following an exceptional season on loan at Shamrock Rovers.

The 21-year-old, who joined the Hoops from Sligo Rovers in January 2022, has caught the eye of Brendan Rodgers with his prolific goal-scoring form, particularly in European competitions.
Kenny has enjoyed a standout season during his second loan spell at Shamrock Rovers, tallying 18 goals across all competitions. His contributions have been pivotal in Rovers’ domestic campaign and their impressive UEFA Europa Conference League run. Highlights of Kenny’s European exploits include decisive goals against Rapid Vienna, Larne, and The New Saints.
Such form hasn’t gone unnoticed, with reports from the Daily Mail reporting that Kenny is set for a promotion to Celtic’s senior squad.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has made no secret of his desire to bolster the team’s striking options. With Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah currently leading the line, Rodgers is keen to add a young forward to the mix, and Kenny appears to fit the mould.
Rodgers’ tenure has seen success in developing players from the League of Ireland, with Liam Scales transforming into a key player over the past season and a bit.
Kenny remains contracted to Celtic until 2026 and is returning to Parkhead in January.
Shamrock Rovers’ remaining Europa Conference League fixtures against Borac Banja Luka and Chelsea will provide further opportunities for Kenny to prove himself on the European stage.
