‘I’ll tell you what…’ – Sutton Weighs in on Celtic’s Disallowed Goal vs Aberdeen

Chris Sutton reckons Celtic were unfortunate to have their first-half opener disallowed in their 1-0 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie last night.

Paulo Bernardo swung a teasing delivery into the Dons’ penalty area towards the end of the opening 45. His corner wreaked havoc in the box, and the ball ended up in the back of the net.

The travelling Celtic supporters thought their team had taken the lead, only for Don Robertson to blow his whistle and disallow the goal for Daizen Maeda’s impeachment of Ross Doohan.

Immediately after, Sutton gave his reaction, outlining how he thought the referee’s decision to rule out the goal was harsh: “There’s not a lot in that at all,” he said (Sky Sports).

“I think that’s weak goalkeeping, I really do. He [Doohan] doesn’t want to come for that.

“He [Robertson] says he saw a foul, but, I’ll tell you what, goalkeepers are over-protected.”

Celtic were somewhat hard done by not to have taken the lead just before the break, but they got their reward for their ball domination 12 minutes from time.

Substitute Greg Taylor, who made an impactful mark off the bench, set up Reo Hatate with a sublime chipped ball in behind the Dons’ backline. The Japanese midfielder expertly took it down and fired into the back of the net.

The Bhoys held out for their 1-0 win in the closing stages, moving seven points clear of Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a game in hand.

Next up is Hibernian at Parkhead on Saturday as Rodgers and Co. look to continue with their rich vein of form.
