Heartbreak for Celtic Loanee Marco Tilio as Injury Strikes Again at Melbourne City

Celtic loanee Marco Tilio has been withdrawn with what appears to be a hamstring injury just 40 minutes into Melbourne City’s match with Western United this morning.

The winger rejoined his former club on loan for the season in the summer transfer window, looking to gain consistency, although an all too familiar scene has played itself out:

Tilio has been plagued with injury issues, at least since he joined Celtic. Due to a culmination of issues, he didn’t make his competitive Hoops debut until November 2023, four months after he joined the club.

His initial return to Melbourne in February this year didn’t go according to plan, either. The 23-year-old made just a handful of appearances before he was once again on the treatment table.

Although he scored the match-winner for City on the opening day of the A-League season a few weeks ago, an all too familiar story has played itself out for the attacker, who can’t seem to catch a break.

It remains to be seen how serious this latest blow will be for the Aussie internationalist.

Tilio simply needs to gain consistency in fitness and minutes, but right now, nothing is going according to plan for him.

Hopefully, he isn’t out for too long with this newest problem.
