Former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady has officially called time on his professional football career.
The 37-year-old, who made his mark during a decade-long stint with the Hoops, announced his retirement after a brief spell at Ayr United.
McGeady was a product of Celtic’s youth academy, making his first-team debut in 2004. He went on to establish himself as a key figure in Gordon Strachan’s side, known for his pace, dribbling ability, and flair on the ball.

Over the course of his Celtic career, McGeady made 252 appearances in all competitions, scoring 36 goals and registering 48 assists. His performances helped the club win multiple league titles and domestic cups during a successful period for the Bhoys.
In 2010, McGeady made a high-profile move to Russian side Spartak Moscow in a deal worth around £9.5 million.
His time in Russia was followed by spells in the English Premier League and Championship, where he featured for the likes of Everton, Sunderland, and Charlton. He also had a return to Scottish football with Hibernian before his final chapter at Ayr United.
McGeady’s retirement marks the end of a distinguished career, one that saw him earn 93 caps for the Republic of Ireland, representing his country at both Euro 2012 and Euro 2016.
A flair player at his peak, McGeady leaves behind a legacy as one of the most skilful wingers to don the green and white hoops.
