Alistair Johnston Declared Best Right-Back in Scotland After CIES Research

Celtic’s Alistair Johnston has been ranked as the third-best attacking right-back outside of Europe’s top five leagues, according to the CIES Football Observatory, using data from Wyscout.

This means, without a doubt, he’s the best right-back in Scotland.

The Canada international has had a fantastic start to the season, playing a pivotal role for Celtic as both a defensive stalwart and an attacking threat.

Johnston has started every game for the Hoops this season, contributing to a defence that has conceded just one goal, which came via a penalty. On the attacking front, he’s already notched two goals and two assists in his first seven games.

This follows a solid campaign last season, where he recorded one goal and five assists in the league.

With Johnston closing in on his fiftieth cap for Canada, his quality and big character make him a key player for Celtic, both on and off the pitch.

While being ranked as the third-best right-back outside the top five leagues may seem like a quirky accolade, it’s still a noteworthy achievement. It would be intriguing to see how Johnston compares to his counterparts within Europe’s elite leagues, given his impressive form.

He missed out on a call-up to the Canadian squad this break through injury, but he will look to be part of Celtic’s starting eleven when Aberdeen come to Glasgow this weekend.
