Don Cowie Criticises Kevin Clancy After Free-Kick Leads to Celtic’s Equaliser

Don Cowie was left fuming after Celtic equalised from a free kick awarded for a foul on substitute Luke McCowan.

Cowie spoke about how he feels the decision was incorrect and mentioned that referee Kevin Clancy was unwilling to discuss it with him post-match.

He said: [Press & Journal], “For me, they score a goal from a free-kick which was never a foul in the middle of the pitch. Jordan put his foot out but made no contact with Luke McCowan. He then lost the ball, and they got a free-kick.

“At that stage, we were a little bit out of shape, and a good team punishes you which is what happened.

“With my eye at the time I didn’t think it was a free kick, and I’ve seen it again and it’s not. We can still react and prevent the goal, but it’s disappointing that the decision goes against us. I asked the referee about it and got no response. He’s got his opinion, and I’ve got mine.”

Ultimately, Cowie admitted that whether it was a free kick or not, his defence did not cover themselves in glory during a poor moment.

However, Luke McCowan did well to win the free kick, and the impact of the Celtic midfielder off the bench was certainly felt in the second-half.

McCowan may very well be on the verge of forcing his way into the Celtic starting 11, with his performances off the bench impressing week in and week out.
