The Scottish Championship outfit gave Celtic a run for their money on Sunday, putting in a more than respectable performance at Parkhead.

John McGlynn’s men led twice and had the Hoops on the ropes on several occasions.

Rodgers was forced to call in the big guns with half an hour to go. Nicolas Kuhn, Arne Engels, and Greg Taylor all came on and eventually positively impacted proceedings for the Bhoys.

The Celts walked away 5-2 winners in the end after an action-packed cup tie.

Although they lost, Falkirk left Glasgow’s east end with their heads held high and received some key praise from opposition boss Rodgers after the game.

The Celtic gaffer admitted last year’s League One winners are the best side the Hoops have faced this season.

He even entered their dressing room post-match to praise them for their performance.

Skipper Donaldson lifted the lid on Rodgers’ classy gesture.

“I think the biggest mark of respect was Brendan Rodgers actually came into our changing room,” he said (Big Scottish Football Podcast).

“[He] just said how impressed he was, not only in the way that we played during the game but in his analysis of us building up, he said it was a joy to look at how we play and that we play the same way every week.

“So I think these compliments are nice but I think as a professional footballer, we were still disappointed with the way that the last 20 minutes went.”

Celtic’s elite firepower eventually proved too much for Falkirk, who, in fairness, had a valiant go.

They proved a bigger challenge for the Bhoys than most Scottish Premiership sides do. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them get promoted to the top-flight at the end of this season.
