SFA Announce Surprising New VAR Initiative

The SFA have announced a surprising new initiative surrounding VAR.

‘The VAR Review’ will run monthly on the Scottish FA’s YouTube channel and seek to explain every contentious decision made in Scottish football over the previous four weeks.

Matchday audio will be utilised, and a verdict of whether each decision was right or wrong will be given.

The new scheme comes as the SFA looks to improve communication with clubs and supporters when controversial decisions need explaining.

Since its introduction in Scotland in 2022, VAR has created a wealth of talking points and has been widely criticised.

On the whole, however, it has been relatively effective, but controversy does reign at times.

Last season at Tynecastle, for example, Celtic were subject to several poor decisions from the officials. Brendan Rodgers was scathing in his post-match criticism of John Beaton.

If such incidents happen now, they will be duly explained at the end of the month in the VAR review.

The first instalment of the show is already live on YouTube, where several decisions are put to Scottish football’s Head of Refereeing, Willie Collum.

He seeks to explain them and state whether those on the pitch and in the VAR room got them right or wrong.

Fans can look forward to monthly episodes of this exciting new initiative.
