Reports emerged last week that Manchester City were interested in the Japanese frontman, but Brendan Rodgers firmly shut them down in his press conference on Friday.

The boss eased Hoops fans’ fears, stating that Celtic have received no contact at all from the English champions for their star man.

Kyogo was said to be viewed as a backup for Erling Haaland. Trusted City reporter Sam Lee said that the 29-year-old and another younger option were on the club’s list of targets.

Now, though, he doesn’t think any deal to bring a centre-forward to the Etihad before deadline day will happen.

Asked on X whether City remain in for Kyogo, Lee gave an update that will encourage Celtic supporters:

Especially because Matt O’Riley has now moved on to Brighton, keeping hold of Kyogo this summer is pivotal.

Celtic cannot afford to lose two key players before deadline day and instead, should be aiming to strengthen the squad.
