Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers made it pretty clear that he expected the club to compete far more business in the last January transfer window, so plenty in the Hoops faithful were very interested to see just what happened during the summer transfer window – and it is fair to say that we have largely been quiet.
That is not necessarily to be taken as a criticism at this point though. We had issues in the 2023/24 campaign mainly owing to injuries and a few things that were out of Rodgers’ control, but our work so far this summer has been more highly targeted and approached, and whilst we certainly have not seen a glut of transfer action as the speculation on the rumour mill suggested we would, I do not think that there will be many fans who are not happy with the business we have completed so far.
They will simply want an extra couple of fresh faces over the line before deadline day hits and the window slams shut, and we now know that after a bit of a ‘will he, won’t here’ saga, we have now captured Norwich City striker Adam Idah and that could prove to be a roulette win for us given what we saw last year.
Many casinos offer promotions like 20 dollar deposit casino bonus to attract players who are drawn to these themed games, and Idah has clearly been drawn to us having experienced the fans, and learned what this club is truly about.
The 23 year old Republic of Ireland international had a very reasonable loan at Parkhead in the second half of last season, scoring nine times in seven starts (and 12 substitute showings), and it was pretty well known, and long reported, that we were determined to bring him back to the club this summer, the issue was simply the price.
With him now being announced as a new signing, we have clearly struck agreement with the English Championship side, and if reports are to be believed he comes in on a deal worth £8.5 million, that could potentially rise to £9.5 million if certain clauses are met.
At that transfer value, he becomes our second most expensive signing of all time, sitting only behind forward striker Odsonne Edouard in our history.
Despite pretty much impressing everyone with his performances, and clearly at his age, being capable of significant future improvement and development, there will be some fans who question the fee but sadly that is now the modern world of football and bargains are becoming more rare to find.
The player himself has already commented that he had no say in the fee, he is just here again to play football, and help us succeed, so he does not feel that the transfer will hang over his head next season as he already knows us well, and he is just looking to hit the ground running now that the deal is finally done.
With two wins from two in the domestic Premiership campaign, it is now all eyes to the Scottish League Cup and the clash against Hibernian this coming Sunday and we shall see if Idah plays a part in Rodgers’ starting XI, or whether or not he is pencilled in for the trip to St Mirren at the end of next week.
Now we see who is the next one to join him through the doors.
