Celtic has officially announced the departure of midfielder Bosun Lawal, who has moved on to Stoke City after failing to secure a place in Brendan Rodgers’ plans.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who recently returned from a fruitful loan spell at Fleetwood Town in League 1, was given a chance to impress during Celtic’s pre-season. However, Rodgers decided that Lawal did not fit into his plans.

The competition within Celtic’s midfield proved too intense for Lawal it seems. With club captain Callum McGregor firmly established as the first-choice holding midfielder and Tomoki Iwata as a reliable backup, Lawal found himself as the third option, a position that offered limited opportunities for first-team action.
Seeking regular playing time and a key role, Lawal has now signed a four-year contract with Stoke City. Celtic will make about ÂŁ3 million from the sale of the Irishman, so got a call-up to the senior squad over the summer.
