Report – Paulo Bernardo to Make Benfica Pre-season Return

As well as Adam Idah, Celtic appears keen to secure the permanent services of midfielder Paulo Bernardo this summer.

Last season, the 22-year-old enjoyed a prosperous loan spell in Glasgow. Bernardo made 33 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and assisting three.

He was trusted in the Champions League by manager Brendan Rodgers and played a key role in the Hoops’ iconic Scottish Cup final Glasgow derby winner, making a driving run from the middle of the park in the dying embers of the game.

The latest update surrounding a permanent move to Celtic for the double winner came at the beginning of this week, where it was reported his wages were becoming an issue.

Now, Portuguese outlet Record (via RecordSport) states that Bernardo will report back to Benfica for pre-season, but there will be limited opportunities for him with Roger Schmidt’s first team.

Likely to leave his boyhood club this summer, Celtic signing Bernaro makes sense.

He is a player who has vast potential and has shown his talents on the domestic and European scene already. Rodgers holds him in high regard and with a few more years of development, he could mould into a key player for the Hoops who is sold for large profit.
