Callum McGregor Admits He’s Taken Souness Criticism “Personally”

Following Scotland’s embarrassing defeat in their opening match of the Euros, where they suffered their worst loss in 70 years, Celtic captain Callum McGregor found himself the subject of pointed criticism by TV pundit Graeme Souness.

Souness specifically highlighted McGregor’s role in Germany’s second goal, scored by Jamal Musiala, during his punditry for ITV, pointedly referencing McGregor’s role as the “Celtic Captain” in a manner that seemed disparaging.

When questioned about the critique and whether such comments fuel his motivation on the field, McGregor responded affirmatively. He acknowledged taking the criticism personally and expressed a resolve to disprove his detractors. “Yes, you do. I think if anyone has a pop at you, you take it personally and you try and prove them wrong,” McGregor told SunSport.

McGregor and his Scotland teammates need to make a quick turnaround and prepare for their upcoming match against Switzerland on Wednesday.

This game presents an opportunity for the team, and McGregor in particular, to address the criticisms head-on and aim for a redemptive performance and result in the tournament which could put them in a good position to qualify.
