Matt O’Riley Thinks One of His Teammates Deserves An Unexpected Euros Call

Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley thinks that his teammate James Forrest should be going to the Euros this summer with Scotland.

The veteran winger has been bled back into Brendan Rodgers’ team in recent weeks and made an impactful mark.

In his last seven appearances, he has scored four goals and registered one assist, rolling back the years during a pivotal title run-in.

No one has more experience in winning trophies at the club than the 32-year-old who has been over the course countless times.

While he may have slowed down over the past few years, his quality has been ever-present regardless of who is in charge at Parkhead; current boss Brendan Rodgers hailed him as the team’s best winger a few months ago.

Those comments have come to fruition of late and resultantly, calls for Forrest to be on the Scotland plane to Germany this summer have emerged.

O’Riley – who could be heading to the Euros himself with Denmark – thinks Steve Clarke would be foolish not to give the wide-man a call-up that a few months ago, would have been hugely unexpected.

He said: [The Celtic Way] “That (Euros call-up for Forrest) would be awesome.

“You can’t say he doesn’t deserve it to some extent. He’s been so good in the last couple of months.

“I think (Steve Clarke) should take him because he’s very good. He’s just a good guy to have around the place too and that’s something to take into consideration, and hopefully, some of the other lads go too. At least four have a chance to go, which would be nice.

“You don’t get 100 goals and assists for Celtic if you’re not half decent. He’s proven that over time, and I think he deserves a lot more respect than he gets in my opinion.”
