Rodgers Sets Sights on Final Glasgow Derby

Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he sees the final Glasgow derby of the season at Celtic Park as an opportunity to create a gap between Celtic and Rangers in the title race.

With just seven league matches remaining, Celtic will face Rangers again in the top six split, with the game likely to decide the title.

Rodgers also spoke of his belief that Celtic will be in a better place by then, with the Irishman proud of his players’ performances this afternoon.

He said: [Celtic FC], “I thought we were much the better team in terms of how we played, how we worked the ball, how we passed it, the combinations that we found.

“And I think in a few weeks’ time as we go through – we’ve still got a job to do in the other games – but I think when we come two or three weeks down the line, players will be even fitter and stronger, and like you saw today, the composure the players showed to play some of the football they did, and look to attack the game, I was so proud of them.

“It’s still all to play for, with six games to go, but we leave here knowing it’s with us. We do the job in the other games, we get Celtic Park with 60,000 there and that’s what we’ll look forward to.”

With the final Glasgow Derby taking on even greater significance, Rodgers is eyeing up winning the final seven league games.

Today’s performance, at times outstanding, showed that the Hoops have the capability.

There’s no reason why they can’t, as long as they can sustain their best form for greater periods in games, instead of just 45 minutes like this afternoon.
