Since its introduction in 2022, VAR has been one of the most divisive topics in Scottish football history.
It feels as though its impact on Celtic has been more negative than positive. Fans could rhyme off several decisions against the Hoops despite the video assistant being in place.
From the start, it has been controversial and arguably, wrongly utilised and implemented by the SFA.

This has been no more coherent than in FIFA’s list of chosen officials and VAR operators for the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris.
No Scottish referees have been selected to head over to France in a few months despite 89 officials from 45 countries globally getting the chance to do so (The Scotsman).
Given one of the reasons the SFA introduced VAR was to get gigs – like this one – with FIFA, the fact they haven’t is a prime example of how IT has failed in Scotland.
It was brought in to bring more accuracy to decisions and although some may argue it has, it has taken away from the natural beauty and raw passion of the game, led to more arguments and contention than ever, and in no way helped the SFA to reach their targets with FIFA and get Scottish refs international recognition.
