Pundit Tips James Forrest For Euro 2024 Call-up

Celtic came away from McDiarmid Park deserved 3-1 victors on Sunday afternoon. Goals from Callum McGregor, Matt O’Riley, and James Forrest saw the Hoops earn three crucial Premiership points.

The substitutes that Brendan Rodgers made were particularly impactful. Johnston and Forrest stood out, with the latter managing to get himself on the scoresheet.

Post-match, the 32-year-old was tipped for a return to international football at Euro 2024 by Sportscene pundit Michael Stewart. He said on the show: “Well, when Steve Clarke came in, he (Forrest) was the go-to man. He was a very important player, and do you know what, it wouldn’t be the most ridiculous shout James Forrest sneaking into the squad.”

Forrest’s last appearance for Scotland came over two years ago at Euro 2020. Since then, he hasn’t played for his country and his lack of Celtic minutes likely contributes towards such a fact.

Under Rodgers, he has been limited to primarily substitute appearances. He has two goals in all competitions this season but is a hugely experienced member of the team.

His presence in the Scotland squad for next year’s Euros could be hugely beneficial. The decision over whether he will be picked, however, is down to Steve Clarke.
