Mikey Johnston Named MOTM For Ireland

Celtic’s firing bhoy Mikey Johnston was named Player of the Match for Ireland on Tuesday evening after another dazzling display for the bhoys in green.

The winger has only played 25 minutes for Celtic in the SPFL so far this season and it’s safe to say he enjoys the international break more than most since changing his allegiance to Ireland.

Mikey has Irish fans raving about his ability while Celtic fans are left scratching their head. Some believe Mikey has already had too many chances in the Celtic team and he’s not done enough. Others will look at his Ireland form and want to see him up close and personal one last time before Brendan Rodgers makes his final verdict.

Johnston has been around since Brendan’s first spell in charge of Celtic. The Irishman noticed Mikey’s skills and ability early on. However, injuries and timing have meant the player’s career has stagnated at Celtic. Out on loan to Portugal last season, Mikey did well and was hoping to replicate that with Celtic this term. He suffered another injury at the beginning of the season and has been playing catch up ever since.

Could Brendan Rodgers look at the match against New Zealand and believe Mikey is ready for one last go? Could he make the Motherwell squad?

Mike was delighted with his night in an Ireland jersey, here he is speaking after the match.
