BRENDAN RODGERS has eased fears Celtic’s star centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers has picked up a fresh injury after he was committed from the matchday squad against St Mirren on Wednesday night.
The defender had been out for a significant period at the beginning of the season, but had seamlessly transitioned back into the starting XI over the last six weeks. However, his omission from the squad gave many cause for concern.
Thankfully Brendan Rodgers cleared things up pre-match by revealing this game was always earmarked as a stopping point for CCV. A game where he can sit out and recover after so many games in a row.
“It was the game plan to bring him out, he’s still working on his knee” The Celtic manager told BBC Sportsound.
“He’s played a lot of games in a small period and this is a chance for him to recover and be back for the weekend.”
It’s a big risk dropping your top defender for any match. However, it’s also risky to continually go to the well if he’s not quite at peak fitness with his knee.
Nat Phillips has the chance to make an impression tonight before his Celtic loan runs out in two months’ time.
Surprisingly, Lagerbielke hasn’t made the squad despite CCV being out. Maik Nawrocki makes his return after his own injury nightmare.
