Celtic defender Liam Scales has endured a resurgence few at the club would have expected. The Irishman has excelled under the stewardship of Brendan Rodgers.
Each week, he maintains his spot in the starting eleven whether it be alongside Gustaf Lagerbielke, Nat Phillips, or Cameron Carter-Vickers. About the latter, Scales has been waxing lyrical.
Indeed the former Shamrock Rovers man revealed it is surreal to partner with the USA international. He said (Sunday Herald via Football Scotland): “He is a dream to play alongside. He has a bit of everything – he is quick, he is strong and good in the tackle. He is very good at defending the box but he is brilliant on the ball too.”

A player of utmost quality, signing Carter-Vickers was a masterstroke from the champions. He is someone who, despite not being rather vocal, aids his teammates in their development. Scales said: “I am learning a lot from him. He has played I don’t know how many games but he has been very successful and is a massive player for the club. It’s nice to be playing alongside him.”
The pair have been utterly solid at the heart of the Bhoys’ backline. Their partnership is continually developing game by game. On this, Scales said: “We are getting to know each other’s game and thinking a little bit more alike in training sessions. In and around the training ground we will have a chat about different moments in games and how we can help each other out. It’s been good.”
As Scales and Carter-Vickers play with each other more, they will only become more comfortable with one another. Both international players, they are up to the standard of Celtic and as long as they keep up their current form, their spots in the team will be preserved.
