I’ve never been a professional footballer, so as a civilian it always baffling to see players attempting to simulate in the most bizarre fashion to get a penalty, free kick, or even a fellow professional sent off.
I suppose, over the years, before VAR, there was a certain merit in trying to con the ref with some amount of success. Even if you were punished retrospectively, you could have made a vital, all be it, ill-gotten contribution to your team winning.
In today’s landscape, it’s much more difficult to get away with it. That’s why I had a right good laugh at Hearts resident hard man, Cammy Devlin on Sunday.
The wee man was caught by Sky cameras trying to manufacture and altercation between himself and Reo Hatate. Falling to the floor as if Celtic’s Japanese midfielder had stuck one on his chin.
If you’re needing a cure for the Monday morning blues, this should do the trick!

Cammy will not want to watch that back!
The whole game will be a write off for the Hearts players who were thoroughly thrashed at the hand of Brendan Rodgers’ side.
The game finished 4-1, but in truth, it could have been more. Hearts only goal came from a gift from Celtic star Daizen Maeda who had a moment of madness outside his own box.
Celtic remain seven points ahead in the SPFL having navigated some very difficult away venues so far. It’s incredible to think this team hasn’t properly clicked yet.
