‘He’s Got Incredible Natural Ability’; Darren O’Dea Praises Celtic Youngster After New Contract

Celtic’s B side hosted the University of Stirling at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie on Saturday afternoon.

The youngsters were looking to replicate the first team’s antics from earlier in the day through winning, and they did exactly that.

Throughout the 90, the Bhoys dominated the ball and kept control, much like the senior team likes to do. They were creating a number of chances, and it was substitute Jude Bonnar who took the all-important one.

The 18-year-old winger came off the bench in the 75th minute, and three minutes later, headed home with finesse from a brilliant Mitchel Frame cross. Manager Darren O’Dea said after the game that his goal sets the ‘benchmark’ for substitutes, and that it furthered the message that everyone will contribute and the B team will work as a group, not individuals.

Setting up the match-winning goal with a sublime ball into the box from deep was left-back Frame. The 17-year-old recently signed a new four-year deal with Celtic and after the match when speaking exclusively to CeltsAreHere, O’Dea heavily praised the young defender. He said: “He’s got a real chance, a real good profile. I’ve got to know him really well this year, I really like his temperament, he’s a really nice boy, he wants to learn, he wants to get better, and he’s got incredible natural ability so we’ll work hard with him because he’s one we’ve got high hopes for.”

Frame wouldn’t have been handed a new contract if the club didn’t think highly of him. This certainly seems to be the case, although he is still of an extremely tender age.

Nevertheless, the Scotland under-19 international left-back is most definitely a player to keep an eye on over the next few years as he looks to make his way up through the ranks at Lennoxtown.
