Celtic’s defender Alistair Johnston has admitted that he was “intrigued” when Brendan Rodgers was first linked to a Celtic return during the summer.

The Canadian international missed pre-season and the start of the Hoops’ league campaign due to injury, but he’s made his return and is thriving in the side.

Since his return, Johnston has been a consistent presence in the starting lineup for five consecutive matches, becoming an integral component of the team.

He seems to be thoroughly enjoying the experience of working with Rodgers.

Brendan Rodgers is of course a big name when it comes to managers, and his return to Celtic would certainly lift the spirits after Ange Postecoglou’s departure.

In conversation with CBS Sports, Johnston reflected on the summer months and gave some insight into Brendan Rodgers’ return from the players’ perspective.

He said:

“Brendan’s been great.

“Coming in, I’d obviously heard a lot of things. His resume speaks for itself — what he’s won at Celtic and some of the other clubs he’s been at.

“As soon as his name was linked with the job I think a lot of us were really intrigued by that.

“He’s an unbelievably personable guy, and all of the stories I’d heard about him from his previous stint here were exactly that. He really takes the time to go out of his way and learn some of the finer details about guys’ personal lives and football lives.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time so far with him. Of course now when you’re winning everything feels even better. So it’s been a really good start under Brendan, and of course, it’s nice to see that Ange is getting all of his flowers down at Tottenham because he deserves it.

“I’ve been lucky so far at Celtic to work under two very top managers.”

There’s certainly some work for the manager to do, but game by game, the team are getting better.

Of course, Celtic can’t quite hit the heights they did last year, with the treble, but Brendan Rodgers is still looking to deliver success to the club, as he did for the two and a half years previously.
