Celtic emerged from a toxic Ibrox Park victorious on Sunday afternoon. Kyogo Furuhashi’s first-half strike proved crucial for the Bhoys as they soared to the top of the Scottish Premiership.
It was a victory few Hoops’ fans saw coming, although sometimes those mean the most. Throughout the 90, every Celtic player gave their all as manager Brendan Rodgers ensured victory was tasted in his maiden Glasgow Derby back in charge of the champions.
With a loss and draw back-to-back going into the match, pressure was somewhat mounting on manager Brendan Rodgers ahead of Sunday’s game. The Irishman, though, thoroughly silenced his critics.
After the match, he got a subtle dig in at those who were doubting him. Rodgers said (Football Scotland): “I understand I have been placed on death watch by the media, but whatever the result, I’m an experienced manager now and I’m staying calm.”

In spite of recent poor results, Rodgers and his team more than stepped up to the plate at the weekend. There were several standout performances all around in the Hoops’ team.
Indeed gaffer Rodgers believed his team played like ‘men’: “It was a fantastic result for us. When you look at the squad, we had here and half our team missing, we needed the players to play like men and they did that.”
Going away from home with absolutely no backing whatsoever apart from the away dugout, Celtic knew the conditions would be tough for them at the weekend. The players prevailed, though, and are now four points clear of their city rivals at the first international break of the season.
