Celtic were defeated by a goal to nil on Sunday. The Bhoys put in a performance that was not up to the mark against a Kilmarnock side who proved tricky customers.
Throughout the ninety, the Hoops never looked like a dangerous threat. The football played by Brendan Rodgers’ men was lacklustre. Towards the end of the game, however, the champions did lay pressure on the hosts’ goal. This resulted in Sead Haksabanovic being brought down in the box.
Appeals for a spot-kick were made immediately, although referee Alan Muir waved them away. The debacle wasn’t even brought to VAR, which was concerning.
After the match, many took to social media to give their opinions on the decision, including pundit Tam McManus. The former Hibernian frontman said on Twitter: “Well done Kilmarnock. Was it not a stonewall pen at the end though?”
Although Celtic remained poor throughout and did not deserve anything from the match, there are no excuses for shocking decisions like the one given against Haksabanovic and the Hoops. A penalty could have easily been awarded, and who knows, we may have been speaking about the Bhoys in the league cup quarter-finals if it was.
