‘You Have to be Careful’ – Brendan Rodgers Celtic Transfer Warning

The recent speculation linking Celtic with a move for striker Mathias Kvistgaarden might be cooling off, following comments from manager Brendan Rodgers.

With the club facing a potential striker shortage in the coming months, many believed that the Hoops would be in the market for a new forward. However, Rodgers’ recent remarks could suggest otherwise.

The recent injury to Hyeongyu Oh, sidelining him for six weeks, has left Kyogo Furuhashi as the primary striker for Celtic, with no other recognised striker on the bench when Maeda starts on the wing.

With a packed schedule ahead and the Asian Cup in January potentially depriving Celtic of Kyogo, Maeda, and Oh, many fans believed that the club would be keen to bolster their central attacking options.

However, Rodgers’ recent comments to the press might have thrown a spanner in the works for those expecting a new striker signing.

Speaking about the striking situation at Celtic, Rodgers said, [MailPlus]

“You have to be careful I think, because you can have too many. I’d seen a lot of Daizen [Maeda] and really liked the look of him as a striker.”

He further elaborated on the depth he sees in the squad, stating, “There is a reason he plays as a central striker for Japan, and over the course of pre-season he was excellent. Obviously, we’ve got Oh as well and Kyogo, but there are only so many you can keep happy. Normally, strikers want to play.”

While Rodgers’ comments don’t outright deny the possibility of adding another striker, they do hint at his current satisfaction with the options at his disposal. It seems that, for now, Rodgers is content with Kyogo, Oh, and Maeda as his primary striking options.
